He has never played above double-A. This is not a condemnation, I am just telling you.
Greenwell is a left-handed corner outfielder, although I have seen him described in several places as an infielder. He spent most of last season in Zebulon, High-A, Mudcats. A few games in Akron, but yeah.
so what the hell?
1. "In his senior year at Riverdale, the speedy Greenwell hit .510 with three homers and 22 stolen bases. In seven minor-league seasons as an outfielder, he’s hitting .280 and has split this season between Akron of the Eastern League and Carolina of the Class A Carolina League." - Glenn Miller saw early talent.
2. From 2009: "'Baseball has always come natural to me,' said Greenwell, who had planned to attend the University of Miami on a baseball scholarship, but chose to accept the Indians' $123,000 signing bonus and begin his pro career right away at age 18." - Chuck Murr's scouting report and background story contain all you need to know. All the warning signs are there, too.
3. Greenwell has had some injuries: "He was progressing nicely as a solid left-handed, corner outfielder when he was hit by a pitch in June 2011 at High-A Kinston. The pitch shattered his left pinky finger, resulting in reconstructive surgery where a plate and four screws were inserted to rebuild his finger. The finger injury ended his 2011 minor league season. He was deemed healthy in time to participate in the Indians’ Instructional League in Arizona last fall, but in his first week of action, Greenwell tore his ACL in his right knee. The injury didn’t just end his 2011 season, but immediately destroyed the first half of his 2012 season." - from 2012 (Did the Tribe Win Last Night?)

You don't know what you're missing, Sonny!
Is Greenwell going to Portland or Pawtucket? If it's the latter, then that makes no sense but in a way it makes complete sense. Whatever, you can start in Pawtucket but nothing says they have to keep you. Just remember, Portland used to borrow a lot of roster bodies from the Can-Am League.
